Oil seal spring are helical extension or compression springs whose ends are connected to allow the spring to be held in a circle. One end may be coned or looped. Their main applications are in oil seals, motor drive belts and conveyors systems.

Compression springs are loop springs twisted with dispersing between the loops so they can be compressed from their free length to a shorter working length. This enables the spring to store energy and give a force or compression.
